The Foxtel Robina reception desk represents best practice developments from the realm of computational design and digital fabrication – a fast-growing specialist area of the architecture industry. Using parametric software tools – which create a direct relationship between space, function, material, and cost – the design for the reception desk was able to be developed rapidly whilst exploring evocative, flowing forms that are representative of coastal associations and of the flow of information and data that characterizes contemporary life. The project combines production via a computer controlled router (CNC mill) with hand crafted assembly on site.
