Dualis is a nested pair of luxury duplex villas situated in the Palm Beach district of the Gold Coast.

Dualis presents a move away from white-white-white aesthetic that has dominated “coastal” architecture in recent years, instead exhibiting a palette of natural earthen tones and textured brick. The curvilinear geometry and bilateral symmetry of the façade is disrupted by a perforated brick veil with expressed brick patterns complimenting bold additive and subtractive apertures. It is a study in depth and texture. A fluted concrete planter pulls greenery into central prominence on the first floor gap shared by the dwellings, whilst anchoring the street-facing composition with a distinct formal gesture and spilling vegetation.

Daylight and breezes are maintained by the central brick veil while establishing privacy for the core of the residences from the nearby suburban thoroughfare, and visually leading ones eye to the rooftop terraces that marry the project to the southeast Queensland sky. For many years now, Studio Workshop has been working hard to integrate landscape into the projects to achieve a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor as our local climate enables. The Venice & Ocean residences incorporate planting at all levels including pool level roof garden. The material palette of brickwork, timber, glass, and interior stone serve as a backdrop to spatial experiences that intensify occupant awareness of the urban coastal context.
