Clay

  • Clay is conceived as a singular luxury residence perched on the edge of Burleigh Headland, where the architecture is shaped by the raw coastal terrain and expansive ocean outlooks. The house is designed as a flowing composition of soft curves and layered horizontal planes, dissolving rigid geometries in favour of a more sculptural and responsive form that follows the contours of the site. Cascading planting weaves through and over the built form, softening its edges and allowing landscape and architecture to merge into a continuous, living surface.

The spatial experience of Clay is defined by movement and gradual revelation—interiors unfold toward framed views of sea, sky, and hinterland, while outdoor terraces extend living spaces into the landscape. The design embraces a sense of calm permanence, balancing bold architectural expression with moments of intimacy and retreat. Materiality is restrained yet tactile, allowing light, vegetation, and horizon to become the primary visual language.

Collaboration with GRAYA enables a design approach without constraint, where ambition and craft are pushed to their fullest expression. Situated within the broader context of the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, Clay is positioned as a refined coastal residence that explores the boundary between architecture and landscape, precision and softness, permanence and change.
